Uber expands ChatGPT Work to its entire workforce of more than 30,000 employees
OpenAI and Uber announced on Thursday that Uber is rolling out ChatGPT Work to more than 30,000 employees, its entire global workforce. The expansion follows a pilot earlier in 2026 with about 1,000 employees across finance, operations, product and other departments.
Uber vice president of engineering Sumanth Sukumar told TechCrunch that about 80% of the pilot's early users were not engineers. In the pilot, employees used ChatGPT Work to analyze operations data, spot trends and develop recommendations, adapt training materials for different markets and languages, and build interactive dashboards for daily work.
Uber has not disclosed what the wider rollout costs, and it has not set a single company-wide way to use the tool — Sukumar said teams are being encouraged to experiment. Uber said it will track how employees use the technology and whether it helps them work more effectively, and use those findings to guide future AI deployments.
