Anthropic brings Claude in-country inference to India through Amazon Bedrock

Anthropic has launched in-country inference for Claude in India through Amazon Bedrock, announced October 5. Requests sent through the India endpoint are processed on servers inside the country, addressing data-residency requirements that matter for banks, insurers, government bodies, and other regulated sectors.

The offering covers Claude Opus 5, Sonnet 5, and Haiku 4.5. Deployments through Bedrock include audit trails and access controls designed for risk and compliance teams, which should make it easier for enterprises to move AI workloads from pilot into production.

Anthropic had committed in August to bringing Claude inference to India; India MD Irina Ghose says the company is now delivering on that promise. AWS India president Sandeep Dutta framed in-country processing as the difference between AI adoption staying stuck in pilots and scaling into production.
