Rumor: SpaceXAI mulls unified 4-tier Grok+X subscription, up to $100/month 'Ultra'
Bloomberg reports SpaceXAI is weighing a unified subscription that would merge Grok and X billing into a single four-tier plan, based on an internal document reviewed by Bloomberg. The proposal: a free tier with tighter restrictions on Grok queries, an $8/month Lite plan bundling basic Grok access with an X verified checkmark and reduced ads, a sparsely-detailed middle tier, and a $100/month Ultra level for power users that includes Grok Bot, the autonomous agent launched in August.
The move would simplify today's confusing seven-plan sprawl — SuperGrok Lite at $10, SuperGrok at $30, X Premium at $8, X Premium+ at $40 with Grok access, among others. Bloomberg noted the overhaul could launch soon, though nothing is final and details on the middle tier remain sparse.
Context: Grok usage is growing but trails ChatGPT and Claude, while frontier-model compute costs climb fast. A unified ladder would let SpaceXAI broaden the base with cheap entry points and extract premium dollars from heavy compute users. Until SpaceXAI confirms it, this stays a rumor — but the pricing signal matters: $100/month is double OpenAI's Pro tier and would be the priciest consumer AI subscription on the market.
Update, October 13: confirmed in substance, with different numbers. SpaceXAI launched The X Subscription on October 12, bundling Grok, Cursor and X Premium in one plan — but as five tiers including a free tier, priced at $8, $30, $100 and $200 a month, so the top Ultra tier is $200, not the $100 the internal document suggested. See the October 12 entry for the full tier list and the warning that switching plans is permanent.
