Nvidia confirms OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra Ultrafast runs on its silicon, claims the 8x speed gain
Nvidia publicly confirmed on October 2 that OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra Ultrafast — the 300-tokens-per-second speed tier that debuted at DevDay — runs on Nvidia silicon. The chip giant's official corporate post was spare: "Up to 8x faster, and now you know why," tagging OpenAI.
The claim reframes Ultrafast as an infrastructure story as much as a product one. A model generating tokens eight times faster on the same task either slashes compute cost, serves far more concurrent users, or both — economics that matter directly for enterprises paying per token.
Ultrafast launched September 29 for GPT-6 Astra in Codex, ChatGPT Work, and the API, gated behind the new $500 Pro 500 tier. A GPT-6.1 Sol version is described as coming soon. The 300 tok/s figure applies to Codex; the API gets up to 6x.
