Meta announces Muse is coming to smart glasses, with voice wake-up and background tasks
Meta announced on October 2 that its Muse AI agent is coming to smart glasses soon, in what the company frames as the most concrete consumer agent deployment yet. Wearers will wake Muse by voice with "Hey Muse" or a custom name, leave their phone in their pocket, and let tasks run in the background until they finish and report back. Glasses-specific uses Meta lists include reservations, flight searches, finding parts, logging meals, workout guidance, and buying the item right in front of you.
Under the hood, Muse runs on the MuseSpark model with a private, persistent Linux VM in the cloud as its execution environment — its own browser, filesystem, and terminal. Payments go through Stripe Link one-time virtual cards, so the agent never touches the user's actual card details. Closing the app doesn't stop the work: the agent writes and executes its own code, dispatches subagents, and sets up scheduled tasks in the background.
The announcement follows Meta's Connect 2026 push, which had already previewed Muse on glasses and demoed new audio-only specs alongside hearing-assistance glasses. International rollout appears staged: South African retail announcements this week note Muse on AI glasses will initially be available in the US only. The privacy terms deserve a close read: Muse data is not used for advertising, but it is used to train future models unless the user actively opts out.
