SoftBank Group announced it executed the third and final $10 billion tranche of its follow-on investment in OpenAI Group PBC on October 1 (Japan time), via SoftBank Vision Fund 2, completing the $30 billion follow-on announced February 27, 2026. SoftBank's cumulative investment in OpenAI now totals $64.6 billion, with an ownership interest of approximately 13%.

The tranche was funded with proceeds from foreign currency-denominated senior notes issued September 24. SoftBank also canceled the remaining $10 billion of undrawn capacity under its $40 billion bridge facility from March 2026 — with all borrowings now repaid and no undrawn commitments left.

The completed follow-on is separate from the Bloomberg-reported talks about a new OpenAI raise at roughly a $1.4 trillion valuation, which remains unconfirmed.
