CNBC: Meta's Muse hunts down forgotten subscriptions and cancels them for you

Meta's Muse AI agent will find subscriptions you've forgotten about and cancel them on your behalf, CNBC reported. Muse can scan a consumer's recurring payments, flag the ones that look unwanted, and cancel them — a chore that subscription companies have historically made as difficult as possible.

The stakes for the subscription industry are large: a Mastercard and FT Strategies report found 44% of US consumers increased subscription spending last year, averaging $1,887 annually. Stanford research suggests subscription companies roughly double revenue because consumers forget to cancel or find the process too cumbersome.

This is the first consumer-scale shot across the bow of the subscription economy from a personal AI agent. If Muse makes cancellation one voice command away, recurring-revenue businesses built on forgetfulness and friction — health and fitness apps saw cancellations jump 3.8x this year already — face a structural problem.
