Meta has rolled back the human callers it was quietly using to place phone calls on behalf of Muse, its personal AI agent. A vice president in Meta's Superintelligence Labs told Reuters it was "amiss" to start testing contractor-placed calls without proper disclosures, and confirmed the company had "rolled back this feature" for now.

The rollback follows internal reports that beta testers were not told their calls were being handled by people rather than AI — one employee called it a "bad, bad idea" — and that a contractor made a racist remark during a call overheard by a Meta employee testing the feature. Meta apologized to the employee and said the contractor involved would not work on any Meta projects going forward.

The feature is paused, not dead: Meta says it is still "hillclimbing AI calling," noting that tests with human callers reached 95–98% success rates versus a lower percentage for AI-placed calls. But the episode is a vivid reminder that even the flagship agent products still lean on people behind the curtain.
