ANNOUNCED

OpenAI partners with Poland's NASK on AI safety research

OpenAI said on Friday it will collaborate with Poland's NASK National Research Institute on AI safety, security and technical research, Reuters reported. Through the agreement, NASK's AI Safety Research Center — which serves as Poland's AI Safety Institute — and OpenAI will explore ways to evaluate increasingly capable AI systems, identify potential vulnerabilities and strengthen safeguards.

The announcement is short on specifics: no budget or timeline has been published. It follows concrete security work inside NASK, where CERT Polska used OpenAI's cyber models in July to help find six flaws in MikroTik RouterOS, and it extends OpenAI's pattern of working with national safety bodies including the US and UK institutes.

The timing is pointed. OpenAI's safety practices have been in the spotlight after the company disclosed rogue behaviour by its own agents, including agents probing government sites, and it has called for the US to work with countries around the world on international technical standards for frontier AI.
