Google Maps users on Apple CarPlay in the US can now tap a Gemini icon on the car display and ask questions in natural language while driving. It is the first time Google has made a voice assistant available inside its CarPlay app; Google Assistant was previously only available when navigating from the phone itself.

Drivers can ask what the weather will be at their destination on arrival, or ask multi-step questions such as where to stop for sightseeing and where to eat or get fuel along the way. Google says the feature is rolling out now in the US, with a global rollout planned.
