OpenAI launches Rosalind Academic Plan: free GPT-Rosalind seats for US university labs

OpenAI unveiled the Rosalind Academic Plan on October 15, offering sponsored access to GPT-Rosalind, its life-sciences model, to eligible academic labs at US universities. Principal investigators and lab leads apply on behalf of their labs, and approval runs through OpenAI's trusted-access process.

Approved labs can activate free access for up to 30 named members for 12 months, alongside other frontier models included in the plan; API access is not included. OpenAI says research data from these accounts will not be used to train its models by default.

GPT-Rosalind is built to reason across biological entities, synthesize literature and help plan experiments, including drug and protein design work. Labs at universities that already have an OpenAI Enterprise agreement apply through their institution instead.
