OpenAI upgrades ChatGPT's Chrome extension: it can read your open tabs in Chat and act in them in Work
OpenAI announced a major upgrade to the ChatGPT Chrome extension on October 15. With the extension installed, users can tag Chrome in the ChatGPT web or desktop app and ChatGPT will use their already-open tabs as context.
In Chat mode it gathers information across tabs — for example comparing products open in three different stores. In Work mode it can control tabs to send messages, fill out forms, download files, and organise or group tabs.
The sidebar now offers the full ChatGPT experience with conversation history, and the feature also works in Edge, Brave, Opera and Vivaldi. The upgrade follows OpenAI shutting down its standalone Atlas browser, making the extension its main route into the browser people already use.
