a16z's 7th consumer AI app ranking: ChatGPT still No. 1 with over 1B mobile users, Claude's web app rises to No. 3

Andreessen Horowitz has published the seventh edition of its Top 100 Consumer AI Apps ranking, and ChatGPT remains the undisputed leader: its mobile monthly active users have now surpassed 1 billion. Anthropic's Claude web app has climbed to third place, with monthly visits approaching 1 billion.

For the first time, a16z added a revenue ranking alongside the web and mobile traffic tables. By monthly revenue, the top five are OpenAI, Anthropic, Canva, Superhuman and Higgsfield. Gemini was excluded from the revenue ranking because its revenue cannot be separated reliably from Google's other consumer businesses.

a16z notes the field has expanded dramatically since the first edition three years ago: where the ranking was once mostly chatbots and image tools, today's top apps span coding, music, design, voice, video, agents and smart hardware. Practical takeaway for readers: the apps everybody actually pays for are OpenAI and Anthropic products first, creative tools second.
