OpenAI ends its $1-a-year federal ChatGPT deal; 50% OneGov discount starts October 1
OpenAI's eye-catching $1-per-year pilot giving US federal agencies access to ChatGPT Enterprise ended on September 30. A new 27-month OneGov agreement from the General Services Administration takes effect October 1, giving agencies a 50% discount on token-based usage of ChatGPT models.
Under the new terms there is no platform-access fee, no minimum order and no spend commitment, and eligibility extends to state, local and tribal governments. OpenAI puts potential ChatGPT access at roughly 23 million people and says agencies will get training resources and cyber-defender access alongside the pricing.
The old pilot, launched in August 2025, reached about 3.5 million federal employees and reportedly generated $1.4 billion in taxpayer savings, mostly from reduced paperwork. Google, meanwhile, extended its rival $0.47-per-agency Gemini OneGov deal into November.
