Barclays accelerates its Claude Code rollout: half of developers by year-end under expanded Anthropic deal

Barclays expects half of its developers to be using Anthropic's agentic coding tool Claude Code by the end of this year, and most of them by the end of 2027, Anthropic announced in an October 1 press release. The rollout is part of an expanded strategic collaboration that will integrate AI systems across the bank's global operations.

Barclays says it is using Claude to modernize legacy platforms, improve software quality, and let engineers focus on complex problems — adding agentic capabilities for building, testing, securing and operating technology. Earlier AI deployments at the bank include a Colleague Knowledge Assistant used by 16,000 UK staff that has handled over a million searches since 2025.

Claude models in Barclays' Global Markets business already process 120,000 client emails a day. The announcement is another large-enterprise win for Anthropic, following its expanded Accenture partnership in September to train 30,000 staff on Claude.
