Caltech-born compression startup PrismML released Bonsai 2 27B, a derivative of Alibaba's Qwen3.8 27B compressed to 5.9 GB — a 9–10x memory reduction that can fit on a PC and possibly a high-end smartphone. Backed by Khosla Ventures and advised by Databricks co-founder Ion Stoica; a rumored Apple partnership is unconfirmed (CEO declined to comment).
